The
conference to launch the Ladders Project was held at SOAS in
London on Weds 13th October and attended by over 100 delegates.
The conference was chaired by Annette Hayton of the Aspire
partnership. Steve Crow of the Learning and Skills Council
London Central made
the opening speech followed by Will Whitlock of Westminster
University’s
Education Initative Centre who gave the HEI perspective on the
project. Finally Kate Amis, Ladders Project Officer introduced
the project, the
development of the teaching materials and the pilot in London
Schools.
The delegates, mainly drawn from the Greater London Region
included Aimhigher Co ordinators and PSHE teachers from
Schools and FE colleges.
LEA Aimhigher Co ordinators, Schools Liaison and WP Co ordinators
from universities and Connexions Advisors.
The teacher’s pack was distributed free of charge to all those
who attended the conference. The pack contains photocopiable
masters and reference cards for pupil activities. A CD version of the
resources
was also provided.
A wide range of workshops were offered at the conference.
The workshops offered an opportunity to experience the
pupil activities first hand,
gain additional support material and share ideas on how
best to deliver the sessions. In addition there were a range
of
seminars
which provided
delegates with an opportunity to update themselves on new
initiatives and schemes which could enhance the progression
possibilities for their pupils and students.
