| UNIT FOUR
Research
and decision making kills for choosing a university course.
We have all witnessed our sixth form pupils picking up dozens of university
prospectuses at HE fairs only to take them home and use them as a door
stop! Similarly pupils may spend hours surfing university web sites without
recording their findings in a meaningful way.
This unit is designed to help pupils develop their referencing
skills, finding the key areas in a prospectus quickly and then
developing some system for recording that data so that they can compare
courses
against each other.
In the second part of the unit pupils are asked to put themselves
in the admissions tutors shoes as a way of understanding the
process of recruiting or selecting for a course. The skills
and qualities that
they identify should help with the early stages of preparation
for drafting their personal statement.
